Set forth below is a transcript which I made of the important documents in the court file from one of Lincoln's murder cases.

The Grand Jury came into court and made the following presentment:
People vs William Weaver – Indictment for Murder
A True Bill, Wm. D. Lowry, Foreman
Ordered that the Court be adjourned until 8 O’Clock tomorrow morning.

The People vs William Weaver – Indictment for murder
This day came the People by the Attorney General and the said Defendant William Weaver in proper person and by his counsel and the said Defendant being furnished with a copy of the indictment and a list of the Jurors and witnesses, and on being arraigned for plea to the Indictment saith that he is not guilty in manner and form as charged therein, and for the trial thereof he puts himself on the country; and the People do the like, and thereupon came a jury to wit: Joseph White Harrison,  W. Drellinger, Alexander Walter, Henry Sadorus, William H. Probst, Charles W. Pritchard, Daniel Hammer, John Hammer, John Mead, Winston Somers, Michael Friebaugh, Wells Edgerton, who being elected tried and sworn well and truly to try the issue joined as aforesaid after hearing the evidence and the arguments of counsel for verdict say they find the said Defendant William Weaver guilty of the Murder of David Hiltibran in manner and form as charged in the Indictment.

45-05-10:  The People vs William Weaver – Indictment for Murder
And now at this day came again the People by the Attorney General and the said Defendant in his proper person and by his counsel and the said defendant enters his motion for a new trial which motion being heard by the Court is denied and the said defendant saying nothing further why the judgment of the Court should not be pronounced, it is therefore ordered and adjudged by the Court that the said William Weaver be remanded to jail and there be Kept in close confinement until Friday the Twenty-Seventh day of June next, on which day between the hours of two and four of the Clock of the afternoon thereof he shall be taken by the Sheriff to the place of Execution and be there hanged by the neck until he is dead. It is further ordered that the defendant pay the costs of this prosecution and that Execution issue therefor.
